My Lap Top's playing up. Most of the time it's fine. Others - like now - it whines like a wife and everything goes to rat shit.

During these off spells; The mouse can't get the cursor going. Pages take a slow, painfull life time to open. I can't operate the side slider bar to scroll. Basicly, I sit here, listening to the damn thing whail and scream ~ bit like a write off trying to make that hill.

I suspect it may be Memory? I have " Physical Memory = 31 of 256. " The other Memory is 90 something %. Haven't got a clue what that means.

C Drive is 33 GB. 6.83 used. Another mystery.

If this is Memory ~ this being a Lap Top ~ is there anything I may do about it, please? Obviously, I've cleaned out the usual basics; 'Disc Clean Up', DeFrag, Recyc Bin.

Runs sweet as a nut, most of the time. Then it has one of these mare's and I'm poggered. Anyone got a clue, please?

I have the exact same problem sometimes. It's usually caused by microsoft automatically dowloading some other new fecking upgrade that i don't want. It's a real pain in the arse but the laptop reverts back to normal as soon as its done.

Norton Anti Virus can do the same sometimes. Check out what way your automatic upgrades are and make sure it doesn't do anything until you say so.

Hi ditch................try this mate I use it every other day Its free and very good http://www.ccleaner.com/

Its called Cr4p cleaner and does just that :11:

The other thing I would recomend is an external hard drive, this little gadget you can buy in 160gb which will be plenty for you.................it will enable you to store your files on this external hard drive and not on the laptop ......free's up storage space on your laptop......and when you plug it in it automatically saves everything new to the external hard drive so if you computer goes tits up you will not loose everything :drink:

If you need help pm me and I will give you my number and I will help you out more clearly :)

when you click the link I put up .............look to the left of the page there you will see the download button.....

When you download it ...read all the options, as you press the next button as it will give you an option to download Yahoo unclick the Yahoo browser option you wont need this .......make sure you look for it mate its the last option :drink:

:D Crow! My Man! Great to see ye here, mate! And I thought ye'd have flown straight in from Pauls old place

Well, that's it then, eh? I am Truly f*cked. This little Lap Top's at least a couple of years old now. Makes sense that something's due to give, ammount of use I give it. Point of fact; When I bought it, I had BB and asked about leaving it on 24 / 7. The response was a resounding " NO!!! Turn the f*cking thing Off when not in active use! ". However, I Do leave it on when I go out ..... music and visuals for the Dogs, see? Sounds like I may have inadvertantly cooked my goose, along with my 'puter, eh? F*ck it!

On top of that, yes; I now live in a cottage with open fires. Everything gets choked in bloody coal dust and I imagine that too may be getting in here and not helping matters? Jesus. I'm trying not to panic and despair here!

I took out a 3 year warrenty. But having since read between the lines I see the salesmen lie. They say ye get a new 'puter, regardless of what happens to this one? B*llocks! What ye Actually get is a 'refurbished' one! C***s! :censored: And that one, we all know, will pack up inside a month. Bang goes ye expensive warrenty!

Hey ho. And I was hoping to treat myself to a new stove this year, eh? Looks like I'd better forget that and start looking out for a cheap little desk top instead. At least with one of those I can get inside it and blow the dust away ~ and replace burned out fans.

Pointer: You're dead right though, mate. Now ye mention it, this Is exactly how it would behave while Micky loaded his crap onto it. I wish that's all it was!

And Ratsnatch; I keep her as clean as I can, mate. I have various aids for all that. And, as it happens; I have a 60GB External winging its way to me as we speak! Bought it off the Bay a couple of nights ago. I'm well aware that I'm on borrowed time here and am desperate to save all my photographs off this thing, before the screen goes blue! :icon_eek:

Cheers, lads. Only hope I can afford a back up before she blows! Having just got back on line, it'd break my heart to be sitting here, reading paper backs again!

Fans may be cheap, mate. But this being a LapTop? It's not like I can open the side panel and dig around in there :( To be honest with ye, this thing has little slots and hatches I've never had anything to do with. I just 'work' from it. I don't meddle.

Anyway, imspired - and terrified! - by your words, I'm now browsing LT sites. I now know what the fan(s) and 'Heat Sink' look like ~ and how mine likely looks! Clogged as f*ck! Terrible to realise how people like me would likely chuck out the whole machine, should it next cease to fire up! :icon_eek:

A can of compressed air looks like my best shot, to date. I'll look into that - once I've rescued Everything off here onto my new External :good:

AOL? Devils spawn! I'd Never let that sh!t Anywhere near one of my machines! Never! (Never get f*cking rid of it, if ye do, either! :censored: )

Thats the attitude - if it ain't dead don't bury it

The worst that can happen as your fan is on the way out is the processor overheats and your computer just fails. This may, or maybe not, kill the processor but it won't harm your hard drive or the files contained on it.

I'd get the smallest attachment I can find and fit it to the hoover. After all, shite has been sucked into your fan. If that doesn't work then get the compressed air out and give it a blast.

Replacing a fan on a lap-top can't be that hard, my boy has only been quoted £40.00 for the supply and fitting of an 80Gb hard drive into his!

Good luck
